Interest payments

Interest payments against the Federal PSDP

  • Interest payments43% of total expenditurePKR 8.1tn
  • Federal PSDP5% of total expenditurePKR 1.0tn
Federal Annual Budget Statement 2026–27, Table 1 · reviewed figures, scaled against the larger control.
  • Interest payments are about 8.1 times the Federal PSDP allocation.
  • Debt service is interest and related charges, not principal repayment. Principal is recorded in the statement’s wider cash-flow tables as a financing flow rather than headline expenditure.
  • The pace of borrowing, interest rates and the exchange rate sit largely outside the annual budget, which is why the pressure carries into later years.

  • The two aggregate controls differ by PKR 64bn, or 0.7% of the Federal control.
  • Federal and provincial statements can draw their boundaries around grants, straight transfers, development support and timing differently, so a small difference is expected rather than an error.
  • Reallocating the Federal total across provinces to force a match would replace published evidence with an estimate, so both controls remain visible.
